Manlul of The Month: Rock it baby!

Fidel Delgado is the Manlul Of The Month and I find it a little difficult to talk about his profession because he does thousands of things . Fidel is a musician. He has played in many bands and his passion is singing and playing the guitar. He is also a professional DJ . He cheers up all parties in town with his sessions and also plays in fashion events and collaborating with major brands. He has composed music for commercials such as Mango, Nike, Magnum ... Among others, and also for some movies.

Another of his passions is fashion and in a way it has become his profession too because he does P.R. for brands like Vans Madrid or Joy Division and the communication of California Bear store where you can find great variety of products. It also has a space at the top where concerts and exhibitions are held or just where you can sip a cup coffee and sit and read a while.

In the first pictures Fidel is wearing a total look of Elvine , DJ'ing his wearing Nudie Jeans jacket. Santa Cruz shades and Sacouny trainers. All photos taken in California Bear store.

Fidel Delgado es el Manlul Of The Month y pensando en qué escribir me resulta un poco complicado hablar de su profesión ya que hace miles de cosas. Fidel es músico. Ha tocado en muchas bandas y su pasión es cantar y  tocar la guitarra. También es DJ profesional. Anima todas las fiestas de la ciudad con sus sesiones además de pinchar en eventos de moda y colaborar con grandes marcas. Ha compuesto música para  anuncios como Mango, Nike, Magnum… entre otros y también para alguna película.

Otra de sus pasiones es la moda y en cierta forma la ha convertido en profesión ya que lleva la comunicación de marcas como Vans Madrid o Joy Division y la tienda California Bear donde puedes encontrar gran variedad de producto. También cuenta con un espacio en la parte de arriba donde se hacen conciertos y exposiciones o simplemente donde puedes tomarte un café y sentarte a leer un rato.

En las primeras fotos Fidel lleva un total look de Elvine. En la foto pinchando chaqueta de Nudie Jeans y bolsa de la misma marca. Gafas Santa Cruz y zapatillas Sacouny. Todas las fotos tomadas en California Bear.

Oldridel Linen Shirt

Empieza el calor, los días largos y las noches cortas, las terrazas, los mercadillos de verano… y con ello mi prenda preferida: la camisa de lino. Normalmente me gusta llevarlas anchas. Un poco grandes, como esta de las fotos. Es de la marca OldRidel y en la web las tienen de diferente colores. También se pueden comprar con el cuello mao o normal.

Las botas son también muy especiales, una reinterpretación de las clásicas Chelsea. Fueron creadas por el zapatero de la Reina Victoria en Reino Unido en 1937, incluyendo por primera vez refuerzos elásticos. Son un clásico que calzaron Los Beatles, poniéndolas de moda a nivel mundial, y otros talentos como Jimmy Hendrix o The Who. Estas son las NeonBoots, tienen muchísimos modelos y además te dan la posibilidad de  inscribir detrás lo que tu quieras, en mi caso, las iniciales.

Las gafas son Palens y los vaqueros Diesel.

The warm weather has arrived, longer days and shorter nights, outside cafes, summer flea markets ... and my favorite item: the linen shirt. I usually like to wear mine loose and a bit over-sized like the one I'm wearing in the photo. The brand is called OldRidel . They are also offered with a mandarin collar or regular buttondown.

The boots are also very special and are a new version of the classic Chelsea. They were created by Queen Victoria's shoemaker 1937 in the UK, including the first elastic reinforcements. This classic was worn by The Beatles wore, making them famous around the world. They were also worn by other artists such as Jimmy Hendrix and The Who.  This pair is bt NeonBoots, they have a wide range  models which can be personalized with custom engraving, in my case with my initials.

The shades are by Palens and Diesel jeans.

Lunes. Vuelta a casa después de un fin de semana largo y divertidísimo. Pero hay que empezar  la semana con nergía, ¡mucho ánimo! 
En las fotos llevo camisa Batabasta, zapatos Saxon de los 70, cárdigan de Teba y el portatrajes de piel es de los años 50, uno de los primeros que se hicieron en España.

Woman in Menswear

La ropa y los complementos son muy definitorios a la hora de  presentarnos a los demás, proyectando una imagen de lo que queremos transmitir. También muy específicos en cuanto a géneros se refiere. No es fácil o habitual el vestir una prenda que está diseñada para el sexo opuesto. Algunas personas sí que atraviesan esa barrera, sobretodo mujeres que se atreven a vestir ropa de hombre. Una mujer puede vestir por ejemplo una prenda tan masculina como es un traje en una versión reinterpretada y continuar manteniendo su feminidad y atractivo. 

Un gran ejemplo de esta fashion androginia es Cathy Lucas, buena amiga y gran artista. Quizás ya os suene porque es una de las componentes del grupo británico Fanfarlo, donde toca el violín, el teclado y canta. Cada vez que sube al escenario no deja indiferente a nadie, tanto por su talento como por su gusto a la hora de escoger los conjuntos, optando muchas veces por prendas masculinas. En estas fotos la vemos dentro de una nave espacial, parte de una instalación del David Blandi, artista británico multidisciplinar que produce video, comics y "performances" entre otras cosas. A parte de tocar con su grupo, Cathy, actualmente de gira mundial, trabaja en un proyecto en solitario que podéis ir escuchando aquí .

The clothes and accessories are very defining when it comes to presenting ourselves to others, projecting an image of what we want to transmit. They also tend to be very specific regarding gender. It is not easy or usual to wear a garment designed for the opposite sex. Some people do cross that barrier, especially women who dare to wear men's clothing. A woman can wear for example a male garment such as a suit in a reinterpreted version and still retain her femininity and attractiveness.

A great example of this fashion androgyny is Cathy Lucas, a good friend and a great artist. Maybe the name rings a bell because she is one of the components of the British band Fanfarlo, in which she plays the violin, keyboard and sings. Every time she steps on stage she leaves no one indifferent, both with her talent and her taste in choosing her outift, often opting for menswear. In these pictures we see her in a spaceship, which is part of an installation by David Blandi, a multidisciplinary British artist who produces video, comics and performances among other things. Besides playing in her band, Cathy, world touring right now, is also working on a solo project called Orlando that you can listen to here.

Manlul 31: Up in the Air

The first time I flew on a small airplane was for a parachute jump. I had nothing to fear even though I was about to step out into the sky from 5,000 metres up. However, once aboard the tiny aircraft, the constant shaking, rattling and noise made me just want to tear the door open and jump out. “If we crash, at least I have a parachute,” I thought. The second time was a completely different experience. The pilot, my friend Martin Ruiz de la Prada invited me to the sit alongside him in the cockpit. Luckily this flight was smooth and quiet and the landscape below was amazing! We flew over swamps, snowy mountains, picturesque towns. A unique experience. As dusk approached, you could choose to watch the fading sunset from one window or a full moon rising from the other. Unforgettable images. In the photos I'm wearing a vintage suede shirt purchased from a street market in Ibiza, Persol Steve McQueen shades, a Massimo Dutti leather jacket and Camper shoes.

La primera vez que me subí a una avioneta en mi vida fue para tirarme en paracaídas. No tenía nada de miedo aunque fuera a caer al vacío desde 5.000 metros de altura pero cuando llegó la hora de montar en la avioneta, al ver que se movía sin parar y hacía tanto ruido solo quería que  abrieran la puerta para poder saltar. Si me estrellaba, al menos tenía paracaídas, pensé.

Está vez fue una experiencia totalmente diferente. Mi amigo piloto, Martín Ruiz de la Prada, me invitó a dar una vuelta con él. Por suerte todo fue suave y silencioso. El paisaje era increíble, sobrevolamos pantanos, montañas nevadas, pueblos… una experiencia única. Al atardecer, desde una ventanilla podía ver el sol poniéndose y desde la otra la luna llena, una imagen inolvidable.

En las fotos llevo camisa de piel comprada en un un mercado de Ibiza, gafas Persol Steve McQueen, chaqueta de piel de Massimo Dutti y zapatos Camper.

Hilfiger Denim

Ya tengo unos pantalones vaqueros bordados a mano con mis iniciales -M.C- (Miguel Carrizo). Tommy Hilfiger ofrece la posibilidad de que bordes las tuyas en cualquier prenda denim que compres hoy y mañana (25 y 26 de abril) en las tiendas Hilfiger Denim.
